Letter in support of the Centre for Humanitarian Aid, Phoenix Project Family House, Rogachevo from CONTACT CICF (UK)

CONTACT CICF is a charity registered in the United Kingdom with the Charity Commission for England and Wales. We have been supporting the Phoenix Project Family House since 2002 and members of CONTACT have visited the Family House on two occasions.

On each of these visits we found the children happy and well cared for and eagerly anticipating our arrival. We have been encouraged by the amount of time and attention to detail shown by both salaried and voluntary staff in their attempts to re-establish the children into society by providing:

·         A secure stable home environment – This has been encouraged by the staff supporting the children in developing their own interests, like football and providing a homely atmosphere by encouraging the keeping and care of small pets.

·         Education enriched by private tuition where required to bring children up to an appropriate standard for their age.

·         Psychological support

·         Medical treatment when necessary

·         The collection of existing documents and applications for new ones e. g. birth certificates, identification and registration documentation.

Much of the above being carried out by the Project Manager Maxim Egorov, some times travelling considerable distances to find missing documents.

After our first visit it became apparent that the accommodation would require enlargement and work began to raise money to purchase the second part of the house. On completion of purchase the building was found to be inappropriate for their needs. On a visit to the project by CONTACT members in May 2005 we were told of the decision to build new accommodation and then demolish the old building. This project is now well on the way to completion. On this visit we were also told of the unstinting work of the Project Manager Maxim Egorov who often works 10/12 hours a day and rarely takes a week-end off.

Throughout our association with the project CONTACT has always received regular updated information and any queries have been answered without delay. The trustees have every respect and admiration for the staff, both paid and voluntary and wish to offer support to them both now and in the future.
